Professor A.A. Balandin is serving as a Principal Investigator and Co-Director of the new Undergraduate Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site for Nanomaterials and Devices established at UCR with the National Science Foundation (NSF) funds. The REU site will offer $300,000 in support for the undergraduate student research projects. Most of the projects will be carried out during summer months under the framework of the Summer Undergraduate Nanoscale Research Institute for Science and Engineering (SUNRISE) created with BCOE help. The SUNRISE will be run by Dr. C. Foster, Director of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program together with Professor A. A. Balandin, REU Site PI and Neuroscience Professor V. Parpura, REU Site co-PI. Chemical and Environmental Engineering Professor R. Haddon and several other BCOE professors are also part of the interdisciplinary SUNRISE team. Professor Balandin will offer the following research topics: Phonon Engineering at Nanoscale; and Performance Enhancement of GaN-Based Transistors. More information about NSF REU sites can ne found HERE.
