Professor A.A. Balandin is
serving as a Principal Investigator
and Co-Director of the new
Undergraduate Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site for
Nanomaterials and Devices established at
UCR with the National Science Foundation (NSF)
The REU site will offer $300,000 in support
for the undergraduate student research projects. Most of the projects
will be carried out during summer months under the framework of the
Summer Undergraduate Nanoscale Research Institute for Science
and Engineering (SUNRISE) created with BCOE help. The SUNRISE
will be run by Dr. C. Foster, Director of the
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program together
with Professor A. A. Balandin, REU Site PI and
Neuroscience Professor V. Parpura, REU Site co-PI.
Chemical and Environmental Engineering Professor
R. Haddon and several other BCOE professors are
also part of the interdisciplinary SUNRISE team.
Professor Balandin will offer the following
research topics: Phonon
Engineering at Nanoscale; and
Enhancement of GaN-Based Transistors.
