Irene Calizo is appointed as a Technical Scholar at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) for the summer of 2007. Her work at LLNL includes nanotechnology and advanced materials related research. The Engineering Directorate Technical Scholar program is designed to offer outstanding scholars the opportunity to compliment their academic endeavors by working in a world-class scientific research environment with state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to working on research projects, the summer program at LLNL includes participation in workshops and seminars. The focus of Calizo’s experimental activities is the study of the phonon signatures from the single atomic layers of graphene and nanocrystalline diamond thin films.
